From David Done: I have just enjoyed reading about the people of Otavalo, as I visited Otavalo and Quito in 1987 as a musician with the Lamanite Generation. We were pleasantly surprised as we stood in the open market in Otavalo when a vendor, with the long, neatly gathered ponytail, selling us wooden flutes, introduced himself as the bishop of a local ward. We were also charmed by the people there. Later, in Quito, I befriended an Andean folk music group and learned how to play the charango and eventually the quena with their encouragement.
