After 21 long weeks, today I ran my first steps pain-free. It was a slow jog for 1/4 mile, but it was running, and I power-walked a total of 5 miles today. After a half hour session pounding the elliptical, I went home and my wife said for the first time in five months, “OOOO, you stink.” That was music to my ears. I’m still a ways of from running at full speed, but I now have hope again.
Week 22. Continued progress. I ran three miles at 3/4th speed. Pain is the lowest I have felt during running since Dec 30.
That is great news! You’ll need patience but you will get there.
Davy, Great to hear you’re back running again!
I am thoroughly enjoying your site and find it both entertaining and educational! As a fellow sedentary man turned endurance nut I appreciate where you’ve come from, been, and are heading.
Sucks to be hit with an injury like a broken tibia, but based on what I’ve read you’ll be rolling hard & long very soon. As such, if you’re ever looking for someone to run with drop me a line. My family and I just moved to Saratoga Springs and I am pushing myself into ultra runs & triathlons (double, triple iron) over the coming years. Plan to hit my first 50 miler early next season.
Thanks for sharing so much of yourself and your knowledge!
